What the address actually does

The address is used to locate publicly available mapped street imagery of the property frontage. SketchStreets checks candidate views and creates a watermarked preview so you can judge the source and the artwork before buying anything.

An address is a lookup method, not a promise that every property can be seen clearly from the road. Coverage, image age, vegetation, gates, parked vehicles and the position of the house all affect the source.

Use the most precise location you have

• Ireland: an Eircode is especially useful because it identifies an individual address
• United Kingdom: use the full street address with the postcode because a postcode can cover several properties
• United States: use the full street address; a ZIP code identifies an area rather than one home
• Canada: use the street address with the postal code
• Australia: use the street address with the postcode

When the address route is strongest

• A surprise housewarming, completion or first-home gift where asking for a photo would spoil it
• Urban or suburban homes with a clear road-facing frontage
• Properties where current street imagery shows the architecture without major obstruction

When a photo is the better source

• Rural homes set well back from the road
• Frontages hidden by hedges, walls, trees or gates
• Recent builds or major renovations that mapped imagery has not caught up with
• A meaningful garden, side or driveway view that the road-facing image does not show

Preview first, then decide

If the mapped angle is useful, continue with that preview. If it is not, upload a property photo instead. The point of the address route is convenience without forcing you to accept a poor source image.
